    Top Five Health Benefits of Parsley

    You probably recognize parsley as a familiar garnish, but did you know that this simple herb is a nutritional powerhouse that can increase your health? This herb is relatively inexpensive and is packed full of nutrients and antioxidants, making it one of my top favorite herbs to have on hand.

    Here are the top five benefits of using this emerald green herb.

     1.) Reduce Cancer Risk and Fight Disease

    Parsley contains elements in its oil that benefit the body's immune system and helps to ward off cancer formation. Research shows parsley has contributed to slowing tumor growth, defending the body against carcinogens and neutralizing oxidative stress.

    2.) Improve Digestion and Relieve Bloating

    Parsley can be used as a natural diuretic to help relieve bloating and water retention. It stimulates kidney production of urine and draws out excess water out of the abdomen without depleting the body of potassium. This herb also aids in balancing blood sugar which can help with long term weight balance as well.

    3.) Antibacterial and Antifungal

    Parsley can be purchased fresh, dried and in oil form. Parsley essential oil can benefit your dental health and your skin by fighting off bacteria and infections. Parsley essential oil can clear up bacteria induced blemishes on the skin and eliminates the fungus. This oil is extremely strong and can cause reactions to the skin, therefore parsley oil should always be mixed with a carrier oil such as almond oil, coconut oil or olive oil.

    4.) Reduce Inflammation

    Parsley has strong anti-inflammatory properties and new research is showing this sometimes-underrated herb is really a star when it comes to reducing pain and swelling in the body. Add parsley to your meals to defend against the discomfort of isolated or widespread inflammation in the body such as a swollen joint or arthritis.

    5.) Boost Your Immune System

    Parsley has an impressive number of vitamins and minerals to help increase your health and overall wellness. You receive an abundant amount of Vitamin A, C, and K along with a healthy dose of iron. Vitamin C alone is a strong defendant for your immune system and only one cup of parsley yields 80mg of Vitamin C!

    Parsley adds flavor to your meals and is a nutritional powerhouse.

    Now that you understand how valuable this luscious herb is, be sure to properly care for it. I love Cuisinart’s salad spinner to reduce the water from the herb after washing. Do you have the proper kitchen tools for cutting your herbs? Check out my favorite OXO kitchen scissors that I use every day. This kitchen scissors will properly cut your herbs but other foods as well making it a great multi-purpose product. Leftover herbs can be stored utilizing green bags to prolong freshness. I recommend Debbie Meyer’s green bags which are inexpensive and BPA free!
